Job Description Summary

Reporting to the Director of Intramurals & Physical Education and the Director of Programming and Membership Services, the Recreation Coordinator (Intramurals & Sports Camps) is responsible for the development and management of the intramural sports program and athletics sports camps.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

Intramurals
● Assist in the interviewing, hiring, training, and evaluating of supervisors, officials and office workers
● Assist in scheduling tournaments, leagues and events
● Develop curriculum and measurable evaluation tools for intramural officials’ clinics and training
● Assist with training emergency procedures to supervisors and officials
● Create and manage weekly employee scheduling.
● Manages scheduling software (IMLeagues)
● Assist with the budget, payroll, purchases and equipment inventory
● Assist with semester participation statistics and annual reports
● Review existing program offering each year, evaluate program according to participation
● Assist with program marketing and promotions
● Assisting with the supervision and management of Intramural Fields.
● Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work.
● Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives.
● Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.

Sports Camps, Clinics and Tournaments include the following (other duties may be assigned):
● Consult with the director and varsity coaches for program goals
● Assist in the development of policies, procedures and programmatic details
● Coordinate pre-and post-program development and execution, including application management, logistical planning, day-to-day operation and program evaluation
● Schedule facilities, reserve equipment, order supplies and coordinate requests
● Assist with registration set-up, management and reporting needs
● Assist with program marketing, including the creation of promotional materials, website management and social media engagement
● Serve as a liaison between multiple campus partners in the set-up and ongoing coordination of program operations
● Hire, train, supervise and evaluate support staff
● Assist with ensuring NCAA compliance, institutional policies and other matters pertaining to risk management
● Onsite supervision and participation during the operational time of programs
● Create a culture of excellent customer service to ensure a positive atmosphere
● Assist with financial reporting as well as identifying potential new fundraising sources

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)

● Bachelor's degree in recreation administration, sport management or related field

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

● One to two years of experience in recreation or sport-based environment
● Good understanding and knowledge of Recreation Services and Varsity Athletics
● Demonstrates knowledge of sports rules and officiating mechanics
● Ideal candidate will possess strong leadership, customer service, team building and decision making skills
● Possess a current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification or ability to obtain

Desirable Education and/or Experience

● Master's degree in recreation management sports management, or related field
● 1 - 2 years work experience in IM and/or sports camp in higher education
● Youth Sports Program Knowledge
● Experience and strong background in sports officiating
● Experience with Intramural sports scheduling software (IM League)
● Direct personal management experience of student staff, including experience recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling and evaluations.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities (minimum requirements)

● Excellent verbal and written communication, organization, management, leadership, and professional skills.
● A working computer knowledge using Microsoft Office and Adobe products in a Windows/network environment.
● Ability to control and provide services to diverse groups of people of all ages
● Knowledge and experience with safety and risk management, as it pertains to both intramural sports and sports camps settings
● Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across cultural boundaries and work harmoniously with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff.
● Demonstrated commitment to contributing to a safe work environment.

● Demonstrated knowledge and ability in officiating various sports, scheduling and sports rules
● Proven commitment to student and staff development and customer service

● Possess analytical skills to identify problems, assess alternatives, and render consistent, logical decisions

Language, Mathematics and/or Reasoning Skills

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to complete routine reports. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to customers or employees.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of problems in standardized situations. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in the mathematical, diagram, written, or oral form.
