The Department of Humanities at Michigan Technological University seeks an experienced scholar and leader with a commitment to interdisciplinarity to serve as department chair at the rank of associate or full professor. The chair will lead our collaborative, multidisciplinary department in implementing a shared vision for excellence in scholarship, creative work, and teaching. The Assistant to the Vice President for Global Campus and Corporate Partnerships (VPGC) supports the operations of the Global Campus while supporting the Corporate Council; provides a high level of organizational, administrative, technical, budgetary, and confidential support, and assistance to the VPGC in an environment that is fast-paced, results-oriented, complex, and sometimes ambiguous; and maintains an organized and efficient flow of communications to and from the office and across departments. The main duties of the Administrative Aide (AA) are to ensure a superior customer service experience by assisting in the management of the Residential Living office suite, ensuring the delivery of accurate communications and excellent customer service to all stakeholders via email, phone call, or in-person contacts in the department. The AA is a champion of customer service and office management, ensuring that the front office area provides a positive, welcoming environment that matches the brand of Residential Living, is efficient in its operations, and is committed to providing all stakeholders the support they need. They orchestrate the collective communications and operations of the Residential Living experience and develop a mastery knowledge of the operation so they can be a front-line resource ensuring all stakeholders have the support (or referrals) as needed. They will serve as a collaborative spirit, supporting the partners of the Residential Living team (Housing, Residence Education, Residential Facilities, Dining) in their communication efforts and developing an understanding of the operation so they can make referrals to customers as needed. It is critical they are a collaborative partner with the Marketing and Communication Manager to ensure their communications are in sync with the messaging within Residential Living. The AA must have excellent interpersonal communication skills focused on customer service, strong computer skills, approach work processes methodically, and attention to detail. The position is committed to the Residential Living team but will report to the Assistant Director of Housing.

Postdoctoral Scholar, Dissolved Organic Matter Biogeochemistry Main Campus (Houghton, MI)
Michigan Technological University is seeking a postdoctoral research associate to contribute to an interdisciplinary project at the intersection of marine microbial ecology, environmental microbiology, and marine engineering. This project is part of a large interdisciplinary team aimed at developing a system for conversion of marine dissolved organic matter into electricity using microbial fuel cells. We are looking for a postdoctoral research associate to coordinate field and lab efforts to characterize DOM concentration, composition and biodegradability across space and through time in support of remote sensing efforts to determine where and when the developed systems could be deployed. A key objective is to determine how operation of the fuel cell system may be affected by environmental conditions, and reciprocally how the system may affect the marine environment in the deployment area via continuous monitoring during deployments.
