Job Description Summary

This position provides students and alumni career exploration and development services; provides job search assistance for full-time, co-op and internship opportunities; promotes relationships with employers to enhance recruitment; develops and presents on-campus and community workshops and seminars; coordinates assigned areas of united operations and shares in general responsibilities of the department. The career advisor will also co-lead the development of “Design Your Career" programming, allowing students to create a structured self-reflective strategy to guide changes in their career interests and opportunities. Supervise the Career Services Learning Center.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

1. Advise and counsel students, alumni and prospective students in career exploration, development, and job search strategies, using a variety of methods/tools.
2. Design, facilitate, and evaluate activities and workshops regarding career preparation including resume and interview preparation, job-search strategies and experiential learning preparation.
3. Keep updated on knowledge of hiring practices and trends.
4. Serve as liaison between employers and students to coordinate activities associated with career development and job search strategies.
5. Collaborate with on-campus colleges to integrate career development programming into their curriculum.
6. Co-lead a team to develop programming modeled after Stanford University's "Design Your Career" career exploration program in collaboration with campus partners.
7. Hire, train and supervise Career Learning Center Coaches
8. Other duties as assigned.
9. Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.
10. Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work.

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)

■ Bachelor's degree

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

■ Experience in teaching, advising, or coaching students or adult learners.
■ Experience using personal computers and various software packages.
■ Experience working as a part of a dynamic, action-oriented team.

Desirable Education and/or Experience

■ Master's in education, counseling, or related academic field.
■ Experience administering and assessing career inventory results.
■ Experience using career services software and its application in a placement/career services environment.
■ Experience advising technical or engineering-related students.
■ Experience advising students in business, science and arts, and humanities academic areas.
■ Experience developing, executing, and refining innovative programming, building on previous research and programming, then executing and refining it based on feedback.

■ Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across cultural boundaries and work harmoniously with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff, to create a sense of belonging.

■ Demonstrated knowledge of cooperative education.
■ Demonstrated knowledge of employment practices, trends, and labor markets.
■ Demonstrated ability to create new course curriculum including interactive lesson plans.
■ Demonstrated ability to supervise and develop teaching methods and presentation skills of team members.
■ Demonstrated ability to identify students who possess talents needed to fill open positions.
■ Experience developing programming and curriculum for students with disabilities.
