Job Description Summary

The postdoctoral researcher will work with the MTU cloud chamber group to conduct experiments in support of the design of a large convection cloud chamber for exploration of aerosol processing and drizzle formation. Special attention will be given to topics of large uncertainty, including boundary conditions for water vapor, removal rates for diffusive aerosol particles, and removal rates for inertial cloud droplets. The postdoc will collaborate on bringing CFD and measurements into close and rigorous agreement in order to increase the level of confidence in the design of the convection cloud chamber.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

Conduct experiments
Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals
Attend and/or present research at national and international conferences and meetings
Collaborate with the MTU cloud chamber group members and visiting scientists
Integrate safety practices into daily activities. 

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)

PhD in Physics, Atmospheric Sciences, Mechanical Engineering, or related field. The degree must have been earned within 72 months prior to the beginning of the appointment.

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

Experience with laboratory experimentation is required.

Desirable Education and/or Experience

Experience with aerosol, cloud, and turbulence measurements is desired.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities (minimum requirements)

Evidence of published manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals as an author

Evidence of presented research at national and international conferences/meetings

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to work in a collaborative research environment

Language, Mathematics and/or Reasoning Skills

 

Work Environment and/or Physical Demands

The work environment is that of a typical laboratory setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Required Training and Other Conditions of Employment
