Summary

As a member of the Information Systems and Services Team within Information Technology at Michigan Technological University, the Business Systems Analyst is responsible for information, data, system processes and requirements and data governance.

Primary responsibilities include supporting business processes, documenting procedures, loading data, sending bulk email communications, and processing access requests. You will become part of a culture that empowers employees, treats them with respect, and encourages innovation and open communication.

 

Responsibilities and Essential Duties

  • Review questions/issues with supported software and determine if the software is working as intended. Follow-up with the vendor and campus partners as needed
  • Reviewing impact of new functionality and prepare and execute test plans to ensure desired results are achieved
  • Develop and maintain training and documentation for supported software and associated business processes as needed
  • Analyze business processes, define and document business process requirements and assist with implementation of business process initiatives
  • Review/understand university processes/procedures and make recommendations for improvements
  • Maintain university data dictionary
  • Process access requests for Banner and related systems
  • Process data loads
  • Generate bulk email communications
  • Prioritize work in-line with institutional expectations
  • Work independently and as part of a team
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.

 

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, computer science, management information systems or technically related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired

Required Experience

  • Understanding of enterprise level computer systems (e.g. Banner, PeopleSoft, SalesForce)
  • Professional experience in troubleshooting and testing enterprise level computer systems
  • Professional experience developing functional and technical requirements

Desirable Education and/or Experience

  • One year of professional experience with emphasis on business systems or process analysis
  • Experience using Banner software
  • Experience in a higher education environment
  • Experience using WebFOCUS
  • Experience with data governance

● Excellent organizational skills and ability to balance multiple priorities and objectives
● Excellent interpersonal, customer service and oral/written communication skills and the ability to document business needs in both technical and non-technical terminology at a variety of skill levels
● Demonstrated ability to work with accuracy, precision, and attention to detail
● Demonstrated ability to use judgment when dealing with confidential information
● Demonstrated ability to deliver results effectively either working independently or on a team
● Demonstrated ability to learn new software and assist in the configuration and setup
● Follow-up with the vendor and campus partners as needed.
● Integrate safety practices into daily activities
● Ability to learn all federal, state, and institutional requirements and laws impacting the delivery of services and systems
● Demonstrated success in working with persons with a wide variety of personal characteristics and viewpoints.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities

  • Experience with writing SQL
  • Experience with BI reporting tools
  • Experience working on projects in a project management environment
