Job Description Summary

As a System Administrator within the Information Technology Enterprise Application Services group, you will be focused on maintenance and deployment of Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Windows servers running the administrative applications of the University. These servers support software which include, but are not limited to, Ellucian Banner ERP, Campus Card System, Research Microscopes, Sponsored Research Proposal Tracking, WebFOCUS and the Bookstore ERP/point of sale. Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

1. Responsible for installation, maintenance, security, monitoring and troubleshooting of Linux and Windows servers running enterprise software.
2. Manage enterprise-wide web and application systems in a large Red Hat Linux and Windows environment.
3. Evaluate software requirements, analyze server capabilities, recommend optimum server configurations.
4. Work independently.
5. Provide support to developers that are deploying applications.
6. Provide support outside of regular business operating hours including evenings and weekends.
7. Perform other duties and projects as assigned or directed.
8. Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives.
9. Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, management of information systems, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired; or the successful completion of a comparable technology-related degree program within 4 months from hire date as a condition of employment.

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

• Demonstrated professional expertise managing Linux servers in a lab, corporate, or other professional environment.

Desirable Education and/or Experience

• Experience in Higher Education
• Professional experience with Windows Server Administration
• Professional experience managing Apache Tomcat
• Professional experience with installation and maintenance of enterprise class applications
• Demonstrated professional experience using a configuration management tool (e.g. Puppet, Ansible, Chef)

• Demonstrated ability to diagnose technical problems and apply standard solutions.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across cultural boundaries and work harmoniously with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff; with an emphasis on a high degree of customer service satisfaction.
• Demonstrated commitment to contribute to a safe work environment.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities

• Experience with integration of cloud-based services with on-premise systems
