Job Description Summary

Independently perform business operations duties for the Business and Operations Director, the Office Manager, and the Institute.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

• Prepare business reports and required forms for the processing and management of externally funded research awards through the life of award.
• Prepare proposal budgets, utilizing University and U.S. Government or client forms and templates.
• Collaborate with and advise principal investigators on various matters concerning research accounting and contracts.
• Analyze information and independently resolve problems in the efficient delivery of research grants and contracts. Resolve, escalate, or route incoming requests appropriately.
• Assist staff with purchasing and travel reimbursements when requested, including conducting Concur training sessions.
• Manage and create workflow for onboarding staff hires.
• Support and conduct other projects as assigned.
• Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives.
• Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)

• Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities have been acquired.

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

• Five years of business operations experience.
• Experience working with budgets and financial data.
• Experience using advanced features of Microsoft Office spreadsheet/database software such as creating macros and charts, and utilizing formulas.

Desirable Education and/or Experience

• Experience working in an office possessing a security clearance.

• Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and oral/written communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to successfully complete multiple tasks within established and changes deadlines.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across cultural boundaries and work harmoniously with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff.
• Demonstrated commitment to contribute to a safe work environment.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities

• Demonstrated understanding of contract language and/or knowledge of business practices.
• Familiarity with electronic research administration systems.
• Familiarity with federal guidelines in regard to grant and contract administration.
