Job Description Summary

The Merchandising Coordinator supervises day-to-day operations, performs tasks in merchandising and course-materials specialty areas, and supports the smooth delivery of products and services. The Merchandising Coordinator performs all duties at any location within the Merchandising Department with a commitment to the highest level of customer service and total satisfaction of all customers, including transforming the services provided to Michigan Tech Students.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

1. Support the financial performance of the operation through the careful execution of purchasing, receiving, pricing, sale, and distribution of products and services.
2. Responsible for the oversight and direction of procurement and distribution of products for resale, services, and course materials.
3. Maintain a clean, attractive, and professional store appearance.
4. Select and work with suppliers to ensure that they efficiently and effectively provide needed goods and services within budgetary limits.
5. Follow departmental policies and procedures, and support departmental goals and objectives.
6. Lead and oversee the general merchandising and display of products for resale. Create special displays that highlight products that are the focus of promotions.
7. Assist with planning work schedules. Provide direct or functional supervision of department support staff and students.
8. Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives.
9. Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.
10. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)

● Associates Degree in business or another related discipline OR a combination of education and experience considered to equal an Associates Degree.

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

● Proven history of providing excellent customer service.
● One year supervisory experience in a retail setting.
● Experience using advanced features of word processing, spreadsheet and database software.

Desirable Education and/or Experience

● Knowledge of higher education course materials.
● Collegiate Retailing Management (CRM) certificate or experience with college merchandising or retail.
● Strong analytical skills and financial judgment.
● Associates degree in business or another related discipline

● Demonstrated knowledge of and adherence to all applicable OSHA standards.
● Understanding of lean practices and continuous improvement.

Required Training and Other Conditions of Employment
