Job Description Summary The Department of Engineering Fundamentals at Michigan Technological University is searching for qualified candidates to inspire the next generation of engineering students by implementing dynamic problem and project-based education in our integrated first-year engineering program. Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned) Anticipated teaching needs include first-year engineering classes, with opportunities to teach other advanced courses in general and systems engineering. Typical first-year topics include engineering problem solving, engineering design, computer programming, and solid modeling. First-year courses are taught in a flipped class format emphasizing active and collaborative learning. Although the primary duty will be teaching, there is an expectation of collaboration on STEM-education research and service. Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements) Qualifications for instructional track faculty include a masters degree (Ph.D. preferred) in engineering, STEM Education, or a related field. Qualifications for tenure track faculty include a Ph.D. in engineering, STEM Education, or a related field. Required Experience (minimum requirements) Qualifications include previous teaching or curricular development experience. Desirable Education and/or Experience ● previous teaching or curricular experience with first-year engineering students ● terminal degree in engineering, a related STEM field, or STEM education ● research in engineering education or a field that supports engagement of undergraduate engineering students ● PE License and/or PMP Certification ● advanced computer skills, particularly MATLAB or other programming languages ● experience in engineering design, programming, Arduinos, data acquisition and control, and CAD software Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities (minimum requirements) Strong interpersonal skills; demonstrated teaching ability; and a demonstrated ability to work with diverse student, faculty, and community populations.
