Job Description Summary

Michigan Technological University (MTU), a nationally recognized leader in science and engineering education and research, invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor position in the Department of Physics, starting Fall 2023. Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

Teach undergraduate physics courses for majors and non-majors, including upper-division lectures.
Foster and contribute to a collaborative DEIS culture within the workplace.
Engage in professional service activities within the department, university, community, and technical organizations.
Employees are expected to apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work and commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work.

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)

Ph.D. in Physics, or a closely related field.

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

Experience in teaching undergraduate physics courses

Desirable Education and/or Experience

Have experience in teaching Physics at the graduate level.

Have experience in curriculum development and assessment.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities (minimum requirements)

Strong interpersonal skills.

Demonstrated ability to work with diverse student, faculty, and community populations.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities

Practice or interest in interactive, collaborative, and novel learning methods.

Experience using educational technologies to engage students in and out of the classroom

Experience in using learning management systems (LMS) such as Canvas by Instructure

Language, Mathematics and/or Reasoning Skills

 

Work Environment and/or Physical Demands

The work environment is that of a typical office and/or classroom setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.

Required Training and Other Conditions of Employment
