Job Description Summary

The Director of Student Financial Services leads a thriving and established team of financial aid professionals dedicated to ensuring the success of Michigan Tech through financial compliance, education, and administration. The director manages operations to provide accurate, efficient, and timely delivery of student bills and student financial aid in compliance with federal, state, and institutional policy and regulations. The Student Financial Services Director is a strategic member of the enrollment management team. This position requires a motivated individual who can lead the unit through adaptive change as the needs of the institution change.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

1. Oversee all operations of the Student Financial Services Center, including direct supervision of all financial aid counseling, disbursement, and compliance
2. Manage a general fund student aid budget of more than $40 million dollars, directly oversee the administration of approximately $90 million dollars of total financial aid for the University, and administer an $850,000 department operating budget
3. Deliver approximately $3 million in sponsored scholarships in an imaginative and strategic process
4. Lead and inspire a thriving team of more than 10 full-time staff members
5. Support enrollment, financial, and retention goals while maintaining a focus on student access, equity, and inclusion for all students
6. Counsel and advise prospective and current students on-campus and at regional/national admissions events to support recruitment and retention
7. Provide leadership for admitted student scholarship competitions, including Leading Scholars, the Create Your Success Scholarship, the Pavlis Honors College Husky Innovation Leaders, and the College of Business and Economics Impact Scholarship
8. Research and complete federal, state, and institutional reports, audits, data requests, institutional surveys, and requests for funding
9. Serve on the committees for Scholastic Standards and Satisfactory Academic Progress, NCAA Compliance, the Betty Chavis Emergency Fund, and the Graduate School Emergency Fund
10. Serve as lead compliance officer for all Title IV, NCAA, State of Michigan, institutional and donor funded financial aid, ensuring conformity to policy and regulation
11. Collaborate with the Admissions Office and University Marketing & Communications to create a comprehensive communication plan to recruit and communicate with prospective and current students and their families
12. Perform other duties as assigned

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)

● Bachelor’s degree.

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

● 5 years of experience managing a budget, staff and student affairs operations

Desirable Education and/or Experience

● Master’s degree.

● Knowledge of the Banner student database

Required Training and Other Conditions of Employment

Every employee at Michigan Technological University will receive the following 4 required trainings; additional training may be required by the department.
