Summary

Michigan Tech, a proud member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) and NCAA Division II, seeks a qualified Head Women’s Basketball Coach. The Head Women’s Basketball Coach will oversee the direction of the Women's Varsity Basketball program at the NCAA Division II level. Duties of the position include areas such as recruitment, scheduling, practice/game preparation, budget management, fund raising and promotion. The coach works in a collaborative fashion with the Athletic Department and serves in a leadership role to enhance the internal and external visibility and recognition of the Michigan Tech Women’s Basketball Program.

Responsibilities and Essential Duties

1. Plan, organize and administer the university's Women's Varsity Basketball Program
2. Direct the recruitment of women's basketball student-athletes on a national basis
3. Effectively lead, motivate, and inspire our Women’s Basketball Student-Athletes: develop student-athletes athletically, academically, personally and as leaders; foster accountability, sportsmanship and a positive team culture
4. Develop and implement women's basketball practice sessions, coordinating basketball staff to determine needs for individual and team improvement; collaborate with appropriate athletics health and performance staff for off-court training
5. Evaluate Michigan Tech and opposing team capabilities to determine game strategy and manage/prepare team for competition; determine strategy during games in consultation with coaching staff
6. Enhance and promote the internal and external visibility and recognition of the University and team to a variety of alumni, campus and off-campus groups
7. Actively participate in fund raising and alumni activities
8. Provide necessary resources to monitor and promote the academic success of student-athletes
9. Plan, develop and administer budgets
10. Represent and act on behalf of the University as directed by the Athletic Director.
11. Supervisory Responsibilities: Administrative supervision over assistant basketball coach and student assistants. Carries out supervisory responsibilities include: interfering, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; and addressing complaints and resolving problems
12. Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives.
13. Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures

Bachelor’s Degree

Required Experience

• Experience playing and/or coaching basketball at the collegiate level
• Experience planning, developing, and administering budgets
• Experience using personal computers and basic software packages
• Significant basketball recruiting experience

Desirable Education and/or Experience

• Head coaching experience
• Fundraising experience
• Recruiting experience specifically in the states of Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota

The salary range for this position is $85,000 - $100,000. However, the final salary will depend on experience and qualifications.
