Summary

Michigan Technological University is seeking a Store Clerk, who will perform a variety of duties involving ordering, receiving, inventory, and distribution of products, and delivery of raw and prepared items as required, assist with catering and other deliveries as needed. This is a full time, 12 month position.

Responsibilities and Essential Duties

• Assist with as needed, completion of a weekly physical count of inventories on hand.
• Assist with as needed and/or coordinate ordering inventory items with supervisor
• Assist with as needed, work with the computer based electronic ordering and
menu management systems.
• Receive vendor deliveries, inspect shipments, and ensure quality and condition of products received.
• Review invoices and record discrepancies.
• Assist with as needed, request vendor credit memos.
• Store received goods in an orderly fashion, rotate stock and break down cases.
• Operate university vehicles including car, pickup truck, and delivery van and truck.
• Assist with as needed the purchasing of inventory items from approved vendors as directed.
• Fill kitchen requests for food and supplies to be pulled from storage locations.
• Prepare, organize, deliver, and set up food and associated items, per customer requests.
• Pick up equipment.
• Prepare special reports.
• Maintain safe, clean, sanitary storage and work areas including loading dock and vehicles.
• Compare invoice pricing with pricing in computer database and update.
• Interact with customers in a friendly and courteous manner.
• Other duties may be assigned.

 

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures

High School diploma, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.

Required Experience

• Two years experience in a food service operation.
• One year experience ordering and maintaining inventories in retail environment.
• Six months experience serving customers.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities

• Excellent communication, customer service and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated familiarity with food items, product descriptions, packaging, and storage practices.
• Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and follow instructions.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across cultural boundaries and
work harmoniously with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff.
• Possess a valid driver's license and meet Michigan Tech University's vehicle use requirements.
• Demonstrated familiarity with computers to include the use of computerized
menu management systems, and electronic order entry systems.

Language, Mathematics and/or Reasoning Skills

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and
memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present
information in one on one situations to customers.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole
numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out basic written or oral
instructions. Ability to deal with problems in standardized situations.

The employee is occasionally exposed to wet, humid conditions; fumes or

frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Required Training and Other Conditions of Employment

Every employee at Michigan Technological University will receive the following training courses:

Additional training will be required by the department on a periodic basis.
