Job Description Summary

Michigan Technological University's College of Business invites applicants for an Assistant Teaching Professor in Accounting.

The position requires the teaching of undergraduate and graduate courses in accounting/taxation, as well as maintaining an active research agenda as a scholarly-academic (SA) per AACSB standards. The successful candidate will demonstrate teaching experience and/or expertise in taxation. Teaching experience in financial statement analysis and some background in assessment of learning are also highly desirable. Candidates with a PhD, or JD with evidence of scholarship, and candidates near completion of their PhD (ABD) will be considered. A broad range of research interests will be considered, including pedagogical research in accounting/taxation. The ability to leverage research expertise in the classroom will be prioritized.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

Teaching undergraduate and graduate accounting courses, maintaining an active research portfolio, and significant involvement with teaching-focused service, including the management of assessment of learning activities at the College and contributing to activities that support the mission of growing the program.

Employees are expected to integrate safety practices into daily activities and commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work.

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)

PhD and/or JD

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

Desirable Education and/or Experience

Ph.D. in Accounting or a related field
CPA, CMA, and/or other professional certification
Two or more years of teaching experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities (minimum requirements)

Expertise in Tax

Ability to teach in both in-person and online modalities

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities

Ability to teach in several areas of accounting and to leverage research expertise in the classroom

Demonstrated commitment to achieving and maintaining scholarly academic (SA) status per AACSB

Demonstrated success in, or potential future contributions to, working with persons from diverse backgrounds, creating a sense of belonging, and fostering a fair, objective, welcoming place to work for persons with a wide variety of personal characteristics and viewpoints.

The work environment is that of a typical office and/or classroom setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
