Job Description Summary

Provide managerial oversight for Michigan Tech’s undergraduate orientation programs and support student success initiatives.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

1. Serve as the primary contact for all questions, issues, concerns and proposals related to Orientation programming.
2. Creatively develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive Orientation for new first year, transfer and mid-year entry students.
3. Coordinate post-Orientation sessions for new students.
4. Coordinate the development and execution of Wahtera Center student staff selection.
5. Hire, supervise, mentor, and evaluate the (student) Orientation Executive Staff (OES).
6. Collaborate to develop marketing and communication pieces including websites and orientation materials.
7. Coordinate the use of assessment materials in Orientation programming.
8. Coordinate the development and revisions of the Canvas course for new students.
9. Assist in coordinating and leading spring student staff training session.
10. Support departmental and University-wide retention efforts.
11. Serve as secondary support for action and outreach related to the campus predictive analytics effort.
12. Teach up to one section of a college success course each semester.
13. Assist with student outreach to specific populations and individual student and parent interventions.
14. Serve as an active member of University, divisional and/or departmental committees and working groups.
15. Work evenings, weekends, and irregular hours at certain times of the year based on the demands of the position.
16. Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)

• Master’s degree in higher education or related field

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

• Two years professional experience that may include graduate student experience in orientation, first-year programs, advising or a similar area.
• One year experience planning, organizing and executing complex events.
• Two years providing high level customer service in a student-centered, client facing, or retail environment.
• Excellent leadership, organization, interpersonal, and oral/written communications, and presentation skills

Desirable Education and/or Experience

• Experience leading orientation and new student initiatives.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities

• Experience being a goal-oriented, charismatic, self-disciplined, willing risk-taker with the genuine interest of all students.
• Experience with Canvas.
• Experience using social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to communicate with students and other stakeholders.
• A positive attitude towards innovation and creativity.
