We embrace our size, climate, sense of adventure, and originality. Summary Michigan Technological University is seeking a Case Manager for our Equal Opportunity Compliance & Title IX department. The Case Manager manages a wide range of complex and confidential tasks. This includes intake of complainants to determine appropriate policy and procedure, providing supportive measures as requested and as reasonable, policy compliance, training, case management, and remedies related to Title IX and other harassment and discrimination laws overseen by the Equal Opportunity Compliance and Title IX department. Responsibilities and Essential Duties 1. Interpret federal and state laws and regulations regarding Title VI, Title VII, and Title IX and stay current with the applicable laws and regulations to maintain university compliance. 2. Address complaints of alleged discrimination, harassment, and violence made against students and employees of the university, utilizing the relevant university policies and procedures. 3. Perform intake of complainants to determine appropriate next steps (triage, supportive measures, on-going support/case management, etc). 4. Establish and maintain confidential, accurate, and thorough case records of all complaints of discrimination and misconduct based on protected characteristics. 5. Utilize specialized university software programs for case management, training, and documentation. (Canvas, Maxient, Banweb, Banner, Aspire, United Educators) 6. Serve on the University-wide Title IX Awareness Committee. 7. Attend training for Title VI, Title VII, and Title IX professionals. 8. Assist with TIX-related web pages and resources. 9. Coordinate with Public Safety and Police Services for case management and Clery Act compliance. 10. Assist with formal investigations within Equal Opportunity Compliance and Title IX by serving as a co-investigator. 11. Problem-solve, respond to inquiries, and resolve concerns with diplomacy and tact. 12. Maintain confidentiality. 13. Other duties as assigned. 14. Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives. 15. Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work Required Education, Certifications, Licensures • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in communication, education, social science, human resources, public administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired Required Experience • One year of experience in higher education, human resources, social work, or other professional areas from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired. • One year of experience working with issues related to harassment/discrimination, sexual assault, and/or dating/ domestic violence. Desirable Education and/or Experience • Master’s degree in communication, education, human resources, social sciences, student affairs, or related field or PhD in communication, education, human resources, social sciences, student affairs, or related field or JD. • Demonstrated understanding of working with STEM staff, faculty, and students. • Evidence of increasing levels of professional responsibilities demonstrating proficiency in policy/procedure management, conflict management, and supervision. • Experience working in a confidential environment. Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities • Knowledge of Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, the Violence Against Women Act, and their practical application to higher education environments. • Experience in mediation, restorative justice, and/or other voluntary adaptable resolution pathways. • Knowledge of the latest in computing and technology for the University environment, including University online and software systems. • Experience developing and using evaluation and assessment data to improve program delivery. • Experience with grant development and implementation. • Demonstrated success in, or potential future contributions to, working with people with a wide variety ofbackgrounds and viewpoints.
