Pre-Award Manager Apply now Job No: 25157 Department: Sponsored Programs Office Work Type: Staff - Full Time Location: Main Campus (Houghton, MI) Full Time / Part Time: Full Time Categories: Advising/Counseling, Research, Accounting Department: Sponsored Programs Office Summary The Pre-Award Manager assists the Assistant Vice President, Sponsored Programs Pre-Award in leading and managing the core functions of the unit, including sponsored programs activities related to proposal processing, departmental and University policy review and development, and provides support to departments, faculty, and staff for proposal processing. Responsibilities and Essential Duties 1. Provide direct/indirect supervision and leadership for sponsored programs staff with regard to sponsored programs proposal processing activities.2. Review and approve proposals and budgets for submission, ensuring compliance with university policies, federal, state and sponsor guidelines.3. Counsel, advise, and assist faculty and staff with proposal and budget development for externally funded projects. Provide proactive and problem-solving guidance and support whenever possible.4. Identify risks and liabilities and minimize the impact on the University when reviewing requests for proposals, ensuring that the proposed terms and conditions comply with university policies, federal and state laws, and sponsor guidelines.5. Serve as liaison between departments and other entities including companies, governmental agencies, non-profit entities, and universities.6. Ensure University compliance with conflicts of interest, export control, and IRB/IACUC policies relating to proposal processing.7. Contribute to and lead the development, review, and implementation of new policies and procedures and proposal processing standards.8. Provide guidance and mentoring to departmental staff regarding university procedures and proposal processing standards.9. Participate in special projects and other assigned duties to further department goals.10. Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives.11. Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.
