Job Description Summary

Michigan Technological University invites applications for one or more endowed chair faculty positions in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the associate or full professor level. Applicants for the position are required to have A Ph.D. in chemical engineering or closely related discipline.

All areas of chemical engineering are of interest, including but not limited to advanced materials, biotechnology, energy & sustainability, modeling (molecular simulation, systems, etc.), advanced separations, process intensification & design, mineral processing, and process automation & control. We are looking for faculty candidates with demonstrated excellence in research and a strong commitment to teaching and working with students.

Externally-funded research has more than doubled in the past four years, and the Department is on a trajectory to double its graduate enrollment over the next five years. In March 2018, the undergraduate program was ranked 9th in the nation by College Factual, making it the highest-ranked program in the State of Michigan. The Department's Unit Operations Laboratory is one of the best in the nation, with two pilot-plant set-ups, numerous bench-scale processes, and a state- of-the-art process simulation and control facility. Michigan Tech's graduates are eagerly sought by industry because of our emphasis on hands-on training and rigorous coursework.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

Teach undergraduate and graduate level courses.
Secure external funding for research program.
Be recognized by your peers for your excellence in research and creation of knowledge.

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)

Ph.D. in chemical engineering or closely related discipline

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

Demonstrated excellence in training of graduate students in research.
Demonstrated record of securing external research funding.

Desirable Education and/or Experience

Nationally recognized leader at the cutting edge in chosen research field.
Ability to lead a team of researchers to develop large-scale proposals and to establish a center of excellence.

The work environment is that of a typical office and/or classroom setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.

Required Training and Other Conditions of Employment

We anticipate bringing the finalists to Michigan Tech starting in late November/early December 2021. The position would begin in fall 2022.
