Job Description Summary

A nine-month, 75% FTE (full time equivalent), tenure-track position in Forest Health at the Assistant Professor level is available in the College of Forest Resources and Environmental Science, with the appointment starting August 2020. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

This is a 75% FTE academic year position. It is anticipated that the workload will initially consist of 50% teaching, 15% research and 10% service. The successful applicant may use research funds to support summer salary as well as to supplement the 0.75% FTE academic year position which could increase the research component to approximately 40%.

Research: We are seeking an outstanding candidate who will develop a research program in the area of forest health (e.g., insects and pathogens of forests). The candidate should be excited about working in an interdisciplinary setting and will complement research interests and strengths of the College. The candidate is expected to develop a nationally and internationally recognized, externally funded research program involving undergraduate, Masters and Doctoral students in the area of forest health.

Teaching: Responsibilities will include teaching required undergraduate classes in forest health and related topics that are required by one or more majors in CFRES. Graduate teaching may also include development of courses in the candidate’s area of expertise.

The successful candidate will contribute to the College’s vision as a premier, national center of excellence in natural resources and environmental science education, research and outreach. Interdisciplinary research opportunities exist with the newly created College of Computing, the Departments of Biological Sciences and Chemistry, and other research groups across campus.

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)

Ph.D. in a field related to forest health at the time of appointment

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

Ability to teach effectively at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

A record of research and scholarship including publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Desirable Education and/or Experience

Experience teaching courses at the undergraduate or graduate level; and successful development of competitive externally-funded grants.

The ability to communicate effectively with students, professionals and the general public.
