Assistant Research Scientist - Environmental Analyst Michigan Tech Research Institute (Ann Arbor, MI)
The Assistant Research Scientist – Environmental Analyst will work to support and build of a variety of scientific and research programs focused on the development and applications of remote sensing and geospatial analysis to solve governmental and societal needs through sponsored research. Knowledge of ocean color remote sensing analysis, as well as training in bio-optical field data collection in aquatic ecosystems to use in algorithm calibration and evaluation is required. Extensive experience in small boat field collection operations is also required. A strong background in science and application of statistical tools to analyze complex geospatial data is desired. The applicant will be expected to support geospatial research projects with remote sensing as a major component, and to apply their knowledge of aquatic ecology and oceanography to research projects. The ability to process and analyze remote sensing data through custom coding (Python, R, MATLAB) and analysis will be important. Examples of current research areas include Great Lakes harmful algal bloom mapping, water quality assessment, and freshwater primary productivity.
