Business/Training Support Specialist Main Campus (Houghton, MI)
The Center for Technology & Training is seeking a Business/Training Support Specialist to help elevate our trainings (transportation (roads and bridges) and environmental programs) and support our business activities. This position provides a self-motivated candidate with an opportunity to help develop new training materials and bring a fresh outlook to existing training materials. They provide support for events from start to finish – organizing events and working with both internal and external subject matter experts, processing registrations and payments, Zoom management, providing virtual and on-site event support, customer communications, and more. The Business/Training Support Specialist is also a key member of our financial team that reconciles event payments and periodically processes payroll. They will also work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and clients to complete project goals and to ensure that services are consistent with the mission of the center and the university.
Senior Research Engineer- Environmental Main Campus (Houghton, MI)
This position will serve as an advocate and technical resource for communities and utilities that manage environmental infrastructure (water, sewer, and storm systems). The position will lead the development and delivery of training and technical support services in the environmental infrastructure domain for the Center for Technology and Training. The position requires a bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering with a focus on drinking water or wastewater. Candidates must have strong experience working with regulators, utilities, and communities with a variety of environmental issues. •PLEASE NOTE: This is NOT a remote position. It requires working in-office in Houghton, MI.
Senior Research Scientist/Engineer Translational Health Engineering Research Center (Grand Rapids, MI)
The Translational Health Engineering Research Center (THERC) at Michigan Technological University in West Michigan seeks to create, expand and accelerate research activities that improve the health of Michiganders. This will be accomplished by establishing a nationally visible research hub, promoting on- and off-campus collaborations with industry, researchers, and clinicians, and creating an environment that enhances external funding. THERC will be part of Michigan Tech’s Health Research Institute (HRI), which is comprised of 59 members from 14 academic departments across campus. We are a thriving, cooperative research community that sponsors activities to improve community health, graduate fellowship programs, a faculty mentoring program, and several social and networking events throughout the academic year. HRI is seeking a Senior Scientist or Engineer to join our interdisciplinary organization. Research Engineer I-Software Developer Michigan Tech Research Institute (Ann Arbor, MI)
MTRI is seeking a motivated professional to help support multiple projects for our government and commercial customers. The Software Developer will work with senior engineers and scientists to research, develop, and evaluate algorithms for a variety of geospatial, signal, and/or image processing applications. The successful candidate will have a solid background in computer science with strong skills in software prototyping, software design, and algorithm design. Assistant Director of Residence Education Main Campus (Houghton, MI)
As a member of the Residence Education and Housing Services team, the Assistant Director of Residence Education will partner with the Director in creating an inclusive and intentional residential education experience for students. This position is a champion for student and staff development and is responsible for the supervision, recruitment, and training of student and professional staff. The person in this position supports initiatives related to the continued development and retention of students living in the residence halls at Michigan Technological University. For the 2024-2025 academic year, the person in this role will focus on preparing for the opening of a new 516 bed residence hall in Fall 2025. This is a 12-month position. A furnished apartment is provided on site, however staff can explore off campus housing and be successful in the position.
Research Engineer I - Civil Engineer Michigan Tech Research Institute (Ann Arbor, MI)
The Research Scientist I – Civil Engineer position provides leadership and support for MTRI programs focused on the development and application of civil engineering to remote sensing and geospatial analysis research projects to solve governmental and societal needs. Knowledge of CAD, digital twins, building information models, pavement condition assessment, traffic monitoring, programming, statistical analysis, asset management, and non-destructive evaluation (NDE) methods is required. The applicant will be expected to develop, support, select, apply for, and lead research projects that apply their knowledge of civil engineering to research questions. The ability to improve the processing and analysis of remote sensing and NDE data through custom coding and analysis for infrastructure condition assessment will be important. Examples of current research areas include paved and unpaved road condition assessment with drones, developing digital twins for bridges, improving hydrological modeling inputs, identifying road surface types using remote sensing data, modeling flooding and scour risks to railways and bridges, automating assessment of rail grade crossing safety, modeling risks to power plants, developing web-based decision support systems, and improving water quality at wastewater treatment lagoons. The Director of International Programs and Services (IPS), reporting to the Associate Dean of Students, works with international students on F and J Visas and works with faculty and staff on facilitating study abroad for the University. The Director ensures the institution's compliance with all U.S. Homeland Security and State Department regulations and Higher Learning Commission accreditation standards, enacts proactive approaches for facilitating students' cultural transitions and acculturation, advocates to advance initiatives that contribute to student's success and well-being, and works both on and off-campus to foster a vibrant and welcoming community for students and visiting scholars.
