Communications Director Main Campus (Houghton, MI)
Michigan Technological University has an opening for a communications director to provide the College of Sciences and Arts (CSA) and its eleven departments with web marketing project management, website maintenance, outreach, recruiting and marketing. The appropriate candidate will also consult with departmental web liaisons on web and document accessibility and updates to news blogs and event calendars. The communications director will report to the Dean of the College of Sciences and Arts and will collaborate with University Marketing and Communications and web liaisons to improve and maintain the quality and usability of all College of Sciences and Arts websites to support recruitment and reputation initiatives. The director will work with the Dean and department chairs to support all aspects of the College’s marketing and communications. College of Sciences and Arts web properties include 21 CMS websites, 1,500 CMS webpages, 19 news blogs, 35 customized WordPress sites, and dozens of events calendars. Each department provides at least one web liaison to collaborate with and the College employs one student web content specialist to assist with routine web maintenance projects.

The office assistant coordinates with multiple staff members to ensure office coverage and is responsible for responding to the ever-changing needs of the department and the students, families, faculty, and staff that it serves. Research Scientist II - Infrared Remote Sensing Specialist Michigan Tech Research Institute (Ann Arbor, MI)
The Research Scientist II – Infrared Remote Sensing Specialist position provides leadership and support for MTRI programs focused on the development and application of remote sensing and geospatial analysis to solve governmental and societal needs through sponsored research. Knowledge of remote sensing theory, in particular infrared sensing (IR), and application for environmental science or transportation research is required. The applicant will be expected to develop, select, and lead remote sensing research projects that apply their knowledge of IR sensing. The ability to improve the processing and analysis of IR remote sensing data through custom coding and analysis will be important. Examples of current research areas include wildland and prescribed fire mapping and effects assessment, Great Lakes aquatic sensing, invasive species mapping, wetlands assessment, transportation infrastructure assessment, wildland fire danger and emissions mapping, cloud-based and distributed computing, user-friendly app development, improved geotemporal visualization of complex data and patterns, extending UAV-enabling sensing, and Arctic landscape change. Director Applied Chemical and Morphological Analysis Laboratory Main Campus (Houghton, MI)
Michigan Tech seeks a director of its Applied Chemical and Morphological Analysis Laboratory (ACMAL). ACMAL is an interdisciplinary, university shared user facility that manages a suite of high-end structural characterization facilities including SEM (3 units), STEM (FEI Titan Themis), FIB, XES, AFM, XRD, XRF, and associated sample preparation facilities. The director manages the access and operational procedures, coordinates maintenance, oversees the personnel needs of the facility, interfaces with the campus-wide user community, coordinates user training, and leads or participates in efforts to expand capabilities and use. The Director will have a staff appointment in the Materials Science and Engineering Department, who manages the facility in behalf of the university. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the operation of electron-based imaging and analytical techniques in a research environment, be familiar with shared user-oriented facility model, demonstrated managerial skills, and a positive attitude compatible with providing efficient and high quality service to the university research community. A degree in the physical sciences, or engineering, or applied technology discipline is preferred.
Assistant Director, Research Development Main Campus (Houghton, MI)
The Assistant Director, Research Development will support researchers of Michigan Tech's Institute of Computing and Cybersystems (ICC) as they collectively work to create and implement activities aimed at the growth and development of ICC-affiliated research and graduate programs.
