Assistant Research Scientist - Applied Physics Michigan Tech Research Institute (Ann Arbor, MI)
MTRI is seeking a highly motivated, intellectually curious professional to support multiple projects for our government and commercial sponsors. The Assistant Research Scientist – Applied Physics will work to support a variety of scientific and research programs focused on the development and applications of remote sensing, image processing, and geospatial analysis to solve governmental and societal needs through sponsored research. Knowledge of remote sensing data analysis, as well as training in field data collection in terrestrial and/or aquatic ecosystems to use in geospatial data analysis is desirable. A strong background in mathematics and physical science and application of physics and math for environmental science is required. Experience working with sensor hardware systems and data from sensors is required. The applicant will be expected to support geospatial research projects with remote sensing as a major component, and to apply their knowledge of physics and mathematics to research projects. A successful candidate will have a background in physics with an interest in applying physical science theory to practical solutions. In addition, an ideal candidate would have schooling in knowledge integration and prior experience working in a sponsored research environment with an interest in problem solving.
