Manager of Payroll Lakeshore Center (Houghton, MI)
Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions. Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates. Responsibility all aspects of payroll processing and other functions within Payroll Services. Responsible for accurate payroll preparation, completion of payroll reports, and understanding and submitting University tax returns. Research Engineer I/II - Electrical Engineer Main Campus (Houghton, MI)
The GLRC seeks to hire a research engineer in the area of electrical engineering, or similar engineering field, to support development of marine-based sensing platforms and autonomous vehicle operations. Systems of interest include observational buoys, wireless communication networks, environmental remote sensing platforms, acoustic recording systems, underwater camera systems, autonomous underwater vessels, and autonomous surface vessels. Operational environments include on and under the ice and water, in the Great Lakes and inland waterways and bodies. In addition to engineering duties, the position will require shop supervision of mechanical/electrical personnel.
Research Scientist I - Remote Sensing Specialist (Cryosphere) Michigan Tech Research Institute (Ann Arbor, MI)
The Research Scientist I –Remote Sensing Specialist (Cryosphere) position provides support for MTRI programs focused on the development and application of remote sensing and geospatial analysis to solve governmental and societal needs through sponsored research. Knowledge of remote sensing theory, in particular spaceborne LiDAR application for cryosphere science (snow and ice) research is required. The applicant will be expected to develop, select, and lead remote sensing research projects that apply their knowledge of remote sensing. The ability to improve the processing and analysis of LiDAR remote sensing data focused on cryosphere applications through custom coding and analysis will be important. The employee will also support current, relevant programs. Examples of current research areas include wildland and prescribed fire mapping and effects assessment, Great Lakes aquatic sensing, invasive species mapping, wetlands assessment, wildland fire danger and emissions mapping, cloud-based and distributed computing, user-friendly app development, improved geotemporal visualization of complex data and patterns, extending UAV-enabling sensing, and Arctic research.
