Job Description Summary

This position will provide support to new and existing sponsored research involving the test and evaluation of ground vehicles and related subsystems. A successful candidate will routinely prepare, conduct, and oversee laboratory and field testing activities for military and commercial sponsors. This position requires an entry- level degree in engineering and a basic background in instrumentation, data acquisition and dynamic measurement techniques.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

• Plan, prepare, conduct and/or oversee laboratory and field testing and experiments
• Perform selection, calibration, and installation of sensors in support of testing efforts
• Reduce and analyze collected data
• Writing and review of test and execution plans, test reports
• Write arid deliver briefings to sponsors and other engineers within the department
• Contribute to proposal writing under the direction of senior KRC staff
• Functional supervision of student interns on a project-by-project basis
• Travel to various locations and arrange/conduct off-site field tests
• Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work
• Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical or computer engineering, OR
• ­Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering technology

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

• Knowledge of planning, conducting, and participating in field OR laboratory testing and evaluation
• Experience and understanding of basic signals and data acquisition concepts (sampling, quantization, filtering, analog-to-digital conversion)
• Experience with, the specification, calibration and, installation of sensors and instrumentation common to ground vehicle testing
• Capable of effectively communicating across cultural boundaries and working harmoniously with diverse groups of students, faculty, staff, and customers

Desirable Education and/or Experience

• Experience with CAN bus or vehicle networks
• Experience collecting, reducing, or analyzing data using Siemens Sim Center TestLab and/or Neo
• Basic mechanical fabrication, electrical, or electronics skills
• Troubleshooting and repair of equipment
• Experience with collecting or processing LiDAR, Radar, or hyperspectral data
• Experience performing noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) data post ­processing and analysis
• Experience with Fourier, time-frequency, or octave analysis signal processing techniques
• Experience with GNSS data acquisition and/or post processing
• Experience with the design of circuits, electronics, or control systems

Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities (minimum requirements)

• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to thoroughly document technical activities during laboratory and field experiments
• Ability to summarize data sets and test notes into a concise written format suitable for insertion into a test report or briefing
• Willingness and ability to participate in logistical planning and coordination with multiple people, or groups of people, to accomplish project work
• Demonstrated organizational ability and attention to detail
• Demonstrated problem solving and critical thinking abilities
• Programming skills with self-coded processing of data in one or more of the following software or programming languages: MATLAB, Python, C, C++
• Ability to obtain a DoD Secret level security clearance, which requires United States citizenship
• Commitment to contribute to a safe work environment

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities

• Ability to design basic testing fixtures and coordinate with fabrication vendors
• Familiarity with foil strain gages and/or bridge-based sensors
• Familiarity with experimental stress analysis techniques
• Demonstrated success in, or potential future contributions to, working with persons from diverse backgrounds, creating a sense of belonging, and fostering a fair, objective, welcoming place to work for persons with a wide variety of personal characteristics and viewpoints

and outside; Testing can be in extreme weather conditions,(both cold and hot)

• Must be able to work a flexible schedule or travel based on need
• Heavy work; exerting up to SO pounds of force frequently to lift, push, pull, or
  otherwise move objects, and 100+ lbs. on an occasional basis
• Subject to ergonomics: standing, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and
  reaching for sustained periods of time
• Subject to noise: there is sufficient noise to require shouting to be heard above the ambient noise level
• Subject to hazards: includes a variety of physical working conditions, such as
  proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, and exposure to chemicals
