The director position plays a crucial role in Michigan Tech’s Information Technology department by guiding the operations of Media Technology Services (MTS). The Director supports the University in leveraging technologies to enhance learning, facilitate research, and advance strategic initiatives through the application of media technology. MTS accomplishes its mission by promoting collaboration and innovation among faculty, students, and University stakeholders. Research Engineer II Main Campus (Houghton, MI)
The Great Lakes Research Center (GLRC) at Michigan Technological University (Michigan Tech) seeks to create, support, expand, and accelerate research activities in translational research. As a leading research Institute, the GLRC is a flagship Center of Excellence integrating faculty and professional researchers in multidisciplinary research collaborations to address critical challenges facing society. The Institute provides a full spectrum of research services, currently to more than 70 affiliated researchers from eighteen academic and non-academic units across campus, with annual research expenditures approaching $10 million. The GLRC is seeking an experienced research engineer to join our organization to facilitate multi-domain physical modeling, optimization, and engineering analysis; instrumentation, data acquisition, and digital signal processing; and apply mechanical and electrical engineering, computer programming, embedded sensor and controls to on-going and new research initiatives. Ideal candidates will have a MS in mechanical or electrical engineering; have education or experience in translational research and/or commercialization; and must be able to obtain a U.S. Department of Defense security clearance, which requires United States citizenship.
Research Engineer I Keweenaw Research Center (Near Houghton County Airport)
This position will provide support to new and existing sponsored research involving the test and evaluation of ground vehicles and related subsystems. A successful candidate will routinely prepare, conduct, and oversee laboratory and field testing activities for military and commercial sponsors. This position requires an entry- level degree in engineering and a basic background in instrumentation, data acquisition and dynamic measurement techniques.
Research Engineer I - Signal Processing Engineer Michigan Tech Research Institute (Ann Arbor, MI)
Michigan Technological Research Institute (MTRI) is seeking a motivated professional to help support multiple projects for our government and commercial customers. The Signal Processing Engineer will work with senior engineers and scientists to research, develop, and evaluate algorithms for a variety of signal and image processing applications, to include radar signal processing, Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) applications, machine learning algorithms, generative AI, and inverse problems. The successful candidate will have a solid background in electrical engineering and mathematics, with experience in software prototyping and algorithm design. Assistant Research Scientist - Geospatial Scientist Michigan Tech Research Institute (Ann Arbor, MI)
The Assistant Research Scientist position provides support for MTRI programs focused on the application of geospatial analysis and image processing to solve governmental and societal needs through sponsored research. The ability to improve the processing, analysis, and visualization of remote sensing data will be important. Examples of current research areas include invasive species mapping in the Great Lakes region, transportation infrastructure assessment, unstable slope assessment, wetlands mapping, emission impacts from wildfires, improved geotemporal visualization of complex data and patterns, and extending UAV-enabling sensing.
