Postdoctoral Scholar, Geological & Mining Engineering & Sciences Main Campus (Houghton, MI)
The department of Geological and Mining Engineering and Sciences is searching for a postdoctoral scholar in volcanology, atmospheric science, or remote sensing. This postdoctoral research associate will work on a new NASA-funded project to further develop and extend ultraviolet (UV) satellite-based measurements of volcanic sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions. The postdoc will analyze SO2 measurements derived from several past and current NASA and European satellite instruments (including the Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer [TOMS], Ozone Monitoring Instrument [OMI] and Tropospheric Monitoring Instrument [TROPOMI]), estimate volcanic SO2 emissions, and merge data from different satellite sensors to develop consistent, multi-decadal records of SO2 degassing.

The project is funded by a NIHR01 grant. The work responsibility is to conduct research related to the central nervous system in blood pressure regulation and in gene modifications leading to neuro-cardiovascular deregulation. Work will include the generation and testing of hypothesis using tools such as viral vector mediated gene overexpression or knockdown in hypertensive rat models and in cell cultures. Postdoctoral Scholar, Connected and Autonomous Vehicles - Controls & Optimization Advanced Power Systems Research Center (Near Houghton County Airport)
The Mechanical Engineering-Engineering Mechanics Department at Michigan Technological University is hiring a postdoctoral research associate working in the area of connected and autonomous vehicle (CAV) technologies including sensing, perception, controls, and optimization for energy reduction. The position will be working with a team of staff engineers, graduate students and research partners including DOE and vehicle OEM’s to develop and integrate real-time embedded controls, optimization, and machine learning algorithms into one of several L4/L5 light-duty vehicles including EV’s, PHEV’s, and HEV’s. Working with the team, the CAV vehicles are being deployed and tested on close track with further analysis in simulation.

A two-year post-doctoral position will be available to work on omics-data analysis in the laboratory of Dr. Hairong Wei at the College of Forest Resources and Environmental Science, Michigan Technological University. Research will focus on identifying regulatory and signaling networks and associated regulatory factors downstream of the Rop GTPase-TORC nutrient sensing and signaling relay using fundamental bioinformatics analysis and advanced statistical and mathematical modeling.
