Job Description Summary Michigan Technological University invites applications for an assistant professor tenure track position in the Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering Technology Department. Applicants with experience and accomplishments commensurate with a higher rank may be considered for an appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. The successful applicants will demonstrate appropriate technical expertise and industrial experience to teach all courses in the MMET Department. This includes undergraduate/graduate courses in Mechanical Engineering Technology and graduate courses in Manufacturing Engineering. Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned) 1. Teach MET undergraduate courses and laboratories such as machine tool fundamentals, parametric 3D CAD modeling, statics, strength of materials, dynamics, machine design, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, thermodynamics, quality, and product design.2. Teach MET undergraduate technical elective courses and laboratories in the following areas: manufacturing processes; fluids and power systems; and computer-aided engineering.3. Teach graduate courses in the following areas: Additive Manufacturing, GD&T, Fluid Power, Robotic System Dynamics, and Safety.4. Create innovative instructional materials and laboratory experiences.5. Participate in program assessment activity related to accreditation.6. Conduct research in an area related to mechanical and/or manufacturing engineering.7. Participate in service activities related to the department, college, university, and professional societies.8. Integrate safety practices into daily activities and apply continuous improvement strategies to everyday work. Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements) Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a closely related engineering or engineering technology field from an accredited institution (ABET, ETAC, or comparable). Required Experience (minimum requirements) 1. Minimum of 5 years relevant engineering experience in an industrial, government, or academic research setting2. Evidence of effective teaching at the postsecondary level3. Evidence of strong oral and written communication, computer and oral presentation skills4. Demonstrated work experience in a teaching lab setting Desirable Education and/or Experience 1. Extensive college/university teaching experience in mechanical or manufacturing areas2. Extensive relevant engineering experience beyond 5 years3. Certifications in GD&T, Additive Manufacturing, CMfgE, CAD systems, Six Sigma or others4. Minimum of 5 years hands-on industrial experience Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities (minimum requirements) 1. Demonstrated commitment to teaching and student success2. Motivation to conduct applied research3. Demonstrated ability to develop partnerships with industry Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities 1. Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) mechanical registration2. History of funded applied research3. Demonstrated work experience related to diversity, equity, inclusion and sense of belonging4. Minimum of 2 years post-secondary lab teaching experience5. Demonstrated success in, or potential future contributions to, working with persons from diverse backgrounds, creating a sense of belonging, and fostering a fair, objective, welcoming place to work for persons with a wide variety of personal characteristics and viewpoints. Language, Mathematics and/or Reasoning Skills Work Environment and/or Physical Demands The work environment is that of a typical office, classroom setting and engineering labs. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
