Job Description Summary

The Department of Humanities at Michigan Technological University
invites applications for an open rank, tenure track, Professor of Rhetoric and Composition position in Rhetoric and Composition to begin August 2022.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in areas of expertise. Carry out a program of research. Perform department and/or university-level service. The usual tenure-track teaching load is 2 courses (6 hrs.) per semester.

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)

Candidates should receive their PhD by August 1, 2022 in Rhetoric and Composition or a closely-related field.

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

Demonstrated record and continued potential for excellence in research and teaching in the field of rhetoric and composition with expertise in some combination of the following: digital rhetoric and public discourse, rhetoric and human-computer interaction, comparative and cultural rhetorics, environmental communication, multimodal composition, and rhetoric and social justice.

Desirable Education and/or Experience

Desirable areas of research and experience include WPA administration, WAC/WID pedagogies related to STEM fields as well as demonstrated ability to mentor graduate students in the field of rhetoric and composition.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities (minimum requirements)

Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills. Ability to teach effectively at the graduate and undergraduate level.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities

Experience/interest in cross-disciplinary collaboration; experience/interest in DEIS initiatives.

Language, Mathematics and/or Reasoning Skills

 

Work Environment and/or Physical Demands

The work environment is that of a typical office and/or classroom setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
