Job Description Summary

Support management of the information systems and networks at KRC. Areas of expertise to include local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), and intranets. This includes the organization, installation and support for hardware and software for these systems. Provide assistance to KRC employees and external customers with problems concerning network access, software, computers, and peripherals such as printers or scanners.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

• Provide support of information technology management systems used for conducting ground vehicle system development efforts
• Provide technical oversight of a multi-site enterprise level WAN, including planning, implementation/expansion, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
• Prepare and maintain documentation of network configurations and cabling layouts.
• Design, deploy, and administer the wireless infrastructure and supporting systems.
• Recommend upgrades, patches, and new applications and equipment.
• Responsible for installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and providing technical support pertaining to personal computers (PC's) and associated peripheral devices for employees and external customers.
• Research and recommend approaches for system administration tasks.
• Analyze and monitor server security and implement patches and fixes to address potential security holes.
• Provide hardware and operating system support for the corporate and field computer systems environment, UNIX, Linux, Windows, and storage.
• Conduct software installation and maintenance upgrades to specifically include Microsoft Windows and Office.
• Participate in administrative activities with other staff members, project leads and customers.
• Assist in training, supervising and guiding students in above duties.
• Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives.
• Integrate safety practices into daily activities.

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)

Bachelors Degree in computer network and system administration or computer science related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

• 3 years of recent (within last 5 years) employment conducting system administrative duties
• 3 years of recent technical support of a multi-site enterprise level WAN
• 3 years of recent administration support duties for wireless infrastructure systems
• 1 year of demonstrated experience installing and maintaining Micro Soft software

Desirable Education and/or Experience

• Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Certification
• Experience using C++ and python languages
• Experience supporting CAD/CAE systems for system modeling and simulation

Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities (minimum requirements)

• Demonstrated ability to obtain a DOD security clearance.
• Demonstrated use of Micro Soft Deployment Toolkit (MTK) or System Center Operations Manager (SCCM)
• Demonstrated ability to use, upgrade, and maintain computer system network hardware and software
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and take the initiative to solve problems.
• Excellent reading comprehension and active learning skills.
• Excellent critical thinking, and problem solving skills
• Excellent oral/written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Capable of effectively communicating across cultural boundaries and working harmoniously with diverse groups of students, faculty and staff.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities

• Knowledge of National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and other cyber security standards

Language, Mathematics and/or Reasoning Skills

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works near moving mechanical parts.

The employee will be working both indoors and outdoors and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; work in high, precarious places, is exposed to fumes or airborne particles, and extreme heat and cold.

The noise level in the work environment is moderate to very loud.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk; talk and hear; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and taste or smell. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.
