Job Description Summary

Michigan Technological University seeks a goal-oriented and dedicated Head Strength & Conditioning coach with a genuine interest in the success and well-being of student-athletes. The head coach is charged with developing, implementing and leading sports specific strength & conditioning programs that facilitate maximum benefits for all student-athletes to both optimize performance and decrease injury potential for 14 Division II programs. Duties of the position include areas such as equipment maintenance; scheduling, instructing and supervising student-athletes and coaches in all facets of weight training and conditioning; monitoring progress of training programs; and compliance with all NCAA, conference and university rules and regulations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

1. Plan, organize, and administer the University’s strength and conditioning program for 14 Division II programs.
2. Effectively lead, motivate and inspire student-athletes.
3. Develop and implement sports specific strength & conditioning programs with an emphasis on developing and improving student-athlete performance.
4. Enhance and promote the internal and external visibility and recognition of the University and the Athletic Department to a variety of alumni, and campus and off-campus groups.
5. Plan, develop and administer budgets related to weight rooms and equipment.
6. Represent and act on behalf of the University as directed by the Athletic Director.
7. Maintain a collaborative relationship with the Certified Athletic Training staff.
8. Ongoing evaluation and assessments of each student-athlete to establish training goals in relation to strength, speed, power and flexibility.
9. Provide proper instruction and demo of all training techniques.
10. Implementation of periodized training programs for NCAA student-athletes based on skill, age and physical attributes.
11. Functional supervision is exercised over graduate assistants and student employees.
12. Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives.
13. Apply safety-related knowledge, skills and practices to everyday work.

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)

• Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology, Human Performance, or other related field.

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

• Certification by the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
• Experience and demonstrated success in a collegiate level strength and conditioning program.
• Demonstrated knowledge of use and maintenance of fitness equipment.
• Experience planning, developing, and administering budgets.

Desirable Education and/or Experience

• Master’s degree.
• Continued education outside CSCS.
• Experience within a college football program.

Required Training and Other Conditions of Employment

Every employee at Michigan Technological University will receive the following 4 required trainings; additional training may be required by the department.
