Job Description Summary

Michigan Technological University’s College of Computing invites applications for two (2) Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor positions. Areas of particular interest include cybersecurity, artificial intelligence/machine learning, and data science; exceptional candidates in other areas of computing will also be considered. Successful candidates will demonstrate a passion for their research, an enthusiasm for undergraduate and graduate education, and a strong commitment to cultivating diverse and inclusive learning environments. The position begins August 2021. Salary is negotiable depending upon qualifications.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

The successful candidate will collaboratively and independently develop and secure external funding for research, develop and teach undergraduate/graduate classes and laboratories, create innovative instructional materials and learning experiences, establish and sustain a record of scholarly achievement, advise graduate students, contribute to program assessment and accreditation activities, and other departmental and university service.

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)

Earned PhD degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computing, or a closely related area.

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

A record of research and scholarship including publications in peer-reviewed journals and top conferences; ability to draw from relevant experiences to teach a variety of courses across the computing curriculums.

Desirable Education and/or Experience

Experience in successfully attracting external funding in support of research and scholarship, establishing collaborations, and research and teaching experience in computing fields; research and scholarship in areas of particular interest include cybersecurity, artificial intelligence/machine learning, and data science.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities (minimum requirements)

Candidates for the positions are expected to demonstrate potential for excellence in independent research, excellence in teaching, and the ability to contribute service to their department.

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across cultural boundaries and work harmoniously with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff. 

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities

Versatility and technical expertise to teach fundamental courses as well as advanced computing courses to diverse students.

Language, Mathematics and/or Reasoning Skills

 

Work Environment and/or Physical Demands

The work environment is that of a typical office and/or classroom setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.

Additional Information

The College of Computing has 36 faculty members, 650 undergraduate students in five-degree programs (Computer Science, Computer Network and System Administration, Cybersecurity, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics and Software Engineering), and 90 graduate students in four MS degree programs (Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Health Informatics, and Mechatronics) plus PhD degree programs in Computer Science and Computational Science and Engineering.
