Job Description Summary

Applications are invited for the position of Lecturer in Statistics. The teaching load for this position is six courses per academic year. Some courses will be taught online. The lecturer position is a 38-week appointment. Summer teaching, with additional compensation, may be available.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and possibly graduate statistics courses. Other duties may include advising undergraduate students in research, and providing statistical consulting on campus. Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work. Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work.

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)

Earned MS in Statistics, Biostatistics, or a related field.

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

College-level teaching experience.

Desirable Education and/or Experience

PhD in Statistics, Biostatistics, or a related field.
Experience developing online/blended learning materials and consulting experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities (minimum requirements)

Working knowledge of statistical software packages such as R and SAS.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities

Versatility and technical expertise to teach fundamental courses as well as advanced statistics courses to diverse students.

Language, Mathematics and/or Reasoning Skills

 

Work Environment and/or Physical Demands

The work environment is that of a typical office and/or classroom setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.

The Department of Mathematical Sciences has 35 faculty members with interests in probability, statistics, computational mathematics, combinatorics, algebra, and number theory. It offers BS, MS and PhD degrees in both Mathematics and Statistics, and has a new MS in Applied Statistics that can be earned entirely through online course work. The department enrolls about 120 undergraduate students and 70 graduate students, and plays a key role in the university’s interdisciplinary programs in Data Science and in Computational Science and Engineering.
