Job Description Summary

Provide academic and career advising for students in the Electrical and Computer Engineering baccalaureate programs. Assist students with their course schedules, degree schedules and the transferring of credits from other universities/colleges. Evaluate previous course work with regard to degree requirements for the electrical engineering and computer engineering curricula. Plan and participate in student recruitment activities such as Open House, Preview Day, and Summer Youth Programs. Participate locally and regionally in recruitment events such as college fairs and visiting middle and high schools

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

1. In collaboration with other advising staff, advise students in electrical engineering, computer engineering, and robotics engineering baccalaureate programs, providing guidance in all aspects of their programs of study.
2. Assist students with semester planning and course registration conflicts, including filled sections, waivers, wait lists, etc.
3. Promote student success by collaborating with campus services including Career Services, Student Mental Health and Well-being, Waino Wahtera Center for Student Success, writing and learning centers, etc. to assist students in areas such as career advising, study skills and time management.
4. Review transfer courses from other colleges for applicability to the electrical engineering, computer engineering and robotics engineering degree requirements and incorporate into ECE student academic plans.
5. Carefully review degree audits, graduation requirements and previous coursework for ECE major programs.
6. Assist with creation of departmental marketing and promotional materials such as undergraduate and graduate program brochures and the alumni newsletter.
7. Meet with prospective students and guests to discuss the electrical engineering, computer engineering, and robotics engineering undergraduate programs.
8. Cooperate with the Registrar’s Office in maintaining student records.
9. Coordinate and participate in First-Year Orientation, and conduct first-year advising meetings.
10. Disseminate current academic policies and procedures.
11. Coordinate ECE Department’s involvement in Summer Youth Programs, including Women in Engineering, Engineering Scholars Program, and week-long subject-specific explorations. Plan activities, recruit instructors, and coordinate with ECE faculty/staff as needed to host quality programs.
12. Plan and coordinate department recruitment efforts in collaboration with Admissions, including Open House, Preview Day, texting campaigns, and Webcasts.
13. Participate locally and regionally in recruitment events such as college fairs and visiting middle and high schools. Involves occasional travel.
14. Participate in program assessment and provide support for accreditation of degree programs.
15. Assist with the creation and updates of department web pages, flowcharts and other advising material.
16. Participate in the selection process for scholarships and awards to department students.
17. Participate in appropriate department and university level committees.
18. Other duties as assigned.

20. Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)

• Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

• One year professional or administrative experience.
• Experience working in undergraduate higher education student services, or closely related area.
• Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations.
• Experience using personal computers and basic software packages including word processing and spreadsheet software.

Desirable Education and/or Experience

• Master’s degree.
• One year professional electrical or computer engineering experience.
• Experience in advising undergraduate students.
• Experience using desktop publishing and BANNER software.

• Experience using degree audit reporting software; Banner and WebFocus for accessing student academic information.
