Job Description Summary

Michigan Technological University and the Department of Computer Science (CS) invite applications for an instructional track faculty position at all levels. The successful candidate should be able to teach across the CS curriculum beginning January 2023. Specific areas of need include introductory programming and software engineering courses.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

• Teaching, a typical load is three courses per semester.
• Contribute to departmental service needs through departmental committees or other service responsibilities
• Assist in curriculum assessment and development
• Integrate safety practices into daily activities and commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work.

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)

An applicant for an instructional track faculty position must have earned an MS or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science or a closely related area from an accredited institution. An applicant for a professor of practice must have a minimum of a B.S. degree with significant software engineering or computer science-related industrial experience.

• Teaching experience in computer science.

• Ability to teach effectively at the undergraduate level.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Strong written and oral and presentation skills.

• Versatility and experience to teach foundational as well as more advanced undergraduate courses.

Language, Mathematics and/or Reasoning Skills

 

Work Environment and/or Physical Demands

The work environment is that of a typical office and/or classroom setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.

Additional Information

The Department has 24 regular faculty members, 550 undergraduate students in two degree programs (Computer Science and Software Engineering), and 75 graduate students in four graduate programs (MS in Computer Science, MS in Cybersecurity, MS in Data Science, and Ph.D. in Computer Science). The department collaborates with the Department of Applied Computing on a BS in Cybersecurity and teaches a substantial portion of the courses required in other programs, particularly the BS in Computer Engineering.
