Job Description Summary

The Mechanical Engineering-Engineering Mechanics Department at Michigan Technological University is hiring a postdoctoral research associate working in the area of connected and autonomous vehicle (CAV) technologies including sensing, perception, controls, and optimization for energy reduction. The position will be working with a team of staff engineers, graduate students, and research partners including DOE and vehicle OEM’s to develop and integrate real-time embedded controls, optimization, and machine learning algorithms into one of several L4/L5 light-duty vehicles including EV’s, PHEV’s, and HEV’s. Working with the team, the CAV vehicles are being deployed and tested on close track with further analysis in simulation.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

Your primary duties will be: (1) Development of sensing, perception, controls, and optimization for energy reduction, (2) in-vehicle integration into the vehicle embedded systems composed of dSPACE MicroAutobox III for high-level supervisory controls and optimization (3) ROS Based Autoware for sensing, perception, and AV control, (4) verification, calibration, and testing of the systems demonstrating improvements in controls and energy reduction, (4) travel to testing sites to conduct closed track testing, (5) presentation and publications to our research partners and to peer-reviewed journals, and (6)  apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.
