Job Description Summary

The Department of Humanities at Michigan Technological University invites applications for a non-tenure-track Lecturer in Technical and Professional Communication to begin August 2022. Candidates should have a record of excellent teaching and scholarly work in technical communication, broadly defined. The department's faculty teach and engage in research that both shapes and benefits from a rich multi-disciplinary environment. The department offers doctoral and master’s degrees in the interdisciplinary Rhetoric, Theory, and Culture program and undergraduate major degrees in Scientific and Technical Communication; Communication, Culture, and Media; and English. Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

Teach undergraduate courses in areas of expertise.
Perform department and/or university-level service.

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)

Preferred candidates should receive their Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree by August 1, 2022, or possess an advanced degree and industry experience in technical communication.

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

A record of excellent teaching and scholarly work in technical communication, broadly defined.

Desirable Education and/or Experience

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities (minimum requirements)

Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills. Ability to teach effectively at the undergraduate level.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities

UX design and usability, content strategy, social justice approaches to tech comm, and/or social media, and/or data visualization.

Language, Mathematics and/or Reasoning Skills

 

Work Environment and/or Physical Demands

The work environment is that of a typical office and/or classroom setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.

Required Training and Other Conditions of Employment

Every employee at Michigan Technological University will receive the following 4 required pieces of training; additional training may be required by the department.
