Job Description Summary

Under the direction of the Assistant Manager, this position will coordinate the operations, activities, and functions of the University's parking control program.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

1. Understand all parking requirements, regulations, and ordinances and apply them in a fair and consistent manner
2. Issue citations to parking violators
3. Be familiar with all parking lots and facilities on campus
4. Provide motorist assistance to those in need of a battery boost, who need air for tires, or who have run out of gas
5. Understand and use all software and equipment necessary for the activities of enforcement
6. Safely collect and deposit funds from coin operated parking meters
7. Operate, maintain, and ensure the cleanliness of all Transportation Services vehicles
8. Train, assist, and provide functional supervision over student parking enforcement agents
9. Provide backup coverage during absences in the Transportation Services Office
10. Integrate safety practices into daily activities. Report all safety-related concerns to supervisor
11. Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)

* High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired
* Possess a valid driver’s license and meet Michigan Tech’s vehicle use requirements

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

* Demonstrated ability to use personal computers to access email, utilize search engines, enter data into spreadsheets, and create documents.

Desirable Education and/or Experience

* Parking and law enforcement experience.
* Experience with public contact involving enforcement of established standards or requirements
* Supervisory experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities (minimum requirements)

* Demonstrated ability to learn and follow Instructions.
* Excellent interpersonal, customer service and oral/written communication skills.
* Demonstrated ability to independently organize and prioritize work assignments.

Work Environment and/or Physical Demands

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds in order to move traffic barricades, traffic signs, and empty coins from parking meters.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must regularly work in all outdoor weather conditions experienced in Houghton, MI, including blizzards, storms, hail, wind, rain, fog, extreme heat, extreme cold and sunshine.

Required Training and Other Conditions of Employment

Every employee at Michigan Technological University will receive the following 4 required trainings; additional training may be required by the department.
